Kawasaki Ninja H2 a motorcycle that exceeds the imagination

The KAWASAKI H2R is an extraordinary machine. Only approved for track use, it boasts a monumental 326 hp with the Ram Air. Such a power is obtained by the addition of a compressor which allows the H2R to reach 350 km/h thanks to aerodynamic appendices specially designed for the machine. Its very futuristic look and its price of 55,000 euros make it suitable for a very limited public. For the less fortunate who want to enjoy it on the road, there is still the H2 SX and its 200 horses...

And before I go any further, I have to tell you about the H2R. It's the craziest motorcycle the earth has ever borne. 357 km/h top speed, 50,000 euros, carbon fairing, aerodynamic fins to keep it on the ground, supercharger... It's the fastest two-wheeled thing you can afford. Except that it's obviously not road legal. That's why the H2 exists: it's a restricted version of the H2R, accessible to anyone with an A license.

Kawasaki Ninja H2 and the h2R

Kawasaki Ninja H2 R

The Kawasaki Ninja H2 is equipped with a positive displacement compressor, designed by the Japanese company's "turbine" department, bringing power to 147 kW (200 hp) and 154 kW (210 hp) with forced air injection. That's for the road-approved H2... The H2R, reserved exclusively for the track, boasts 300 hp thanks to different internal parts (see its detailed sheet)! If the H2R is made of titanium and carbon, the H2 is made of steel and plastics. The H2 is therefore a bit heavier than the H2R (237 kg vs. 217), which seems a bit heavy compared to other recent hypersports. The high-strength steel tubular trellis frame with monobar is identical, but the H2 has a slightly tighter caster angle than the H2R (24.5° vs. 25.1°), less drag at 103mm vs. 108mm, and a higher final drive ratio, with a different 6-speed gearbox. The rear tire is 200 mm wide (up from 190 mm) and the large dual outlet muffler is immediately noticeable, which can be replaced by a specially designed Akrapovic unit. Fully adjustable suspension, brakes and assistance (Öhlins steering damper, shifter, launch control, 3-mode traction control, adjustable engine brake, "intelligent" ABS) are identical to both models. The riding position is inspired by the ZX10R, but "more relaxed", and a backrest adjustable on 2 positions (+ or - 15 mm) allows to support the hips of the pilot. The instrumentation, manageable with the handlebar controls, is entrusted to an LCD screen with white characters on black and one finds there in particular a "boost indicator", and even an economic driving indicator! All the lights are entrusted to leds. The announced availability is mid 2015, but in France only in January 2016, when it will be mandatory for the Hexagon to homologate motorcycles of more than 100 hp. It is already possible to reserve it at your dealer, knowing that the number of units will be limited (200 units.

FEATURES :

Chassis :

As for the chassis, the H2 has a part-cycle made to contain this engine. As you may have noticed, the frame is not made of aluminum like on most sport bikes, but of steel tubes. The reason for this choice is simple: the heat generated by a compressed engine is such that the engineers opted for the thinnest possible frame to facilitate air flow and cooling of the block. The same goes for the brakes: for the first time in its history, Kawasaki has equipped its bike with full Brembo brakes. 4-piston radial calipers, 330 mm discs, this is the best equipment you can find on a production bike. Certainly the only one able to slow down such a machine...

And it needed to be: with a weight of 238 kg, the H2 is heavy. You feel a certain inertia when you have to turn it. But its equipment (suspensions, braking, carding) is so accomplished that it is easy to ride. It's obviously not at the level of a hypersport, but it's still not bad.

Engine :

The most important thing about the H2 is obviously its engine. The experts of the different sectors of Kawasaki Heavy Industries have developed each of its parts in-house and only for this machine. This is extremely rare because usually each brand reuses parts on several models and, in the case of Kawasaki, only the Motorcycle department works on motorcycles. For the H2, employees from the aeronautics and aerospace industries worked on the project. As a result, this machine is the only one equipped with a compressor.

This compressor supplies the engine with air at a maximum rate of 200 liters/second at 140,000 rpm. This improves power at high rpm, where the engines already have the most power... In concrete terms, this gives it an insane ability to slip out of your hands with each rotation of the throttle. The slightest sudden movement on the throttle and the front of the machine jumps in your face.
